1992 to present
Member NJ State Fire Safety Commission Codes Advisory Council. Served as Chair of the Fire Prevention Code Subcommittee from 1993 to 2017, currently serving as a member, coordinated the complete upgrade of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code to the 1996 national code provisions, and coordinated the upgrade to the International Fire Code 2006 edition. Recently coordinated the upgrade to the 2015 edition of the International Fire Code. Also serve as a member of the Subchapter 4 (Retro-fit Code) Committee.
2017 to present
Member of the NFPA Fire Research Foundation PV Stakeholder Group. The scope of this Group is to address concerns of first responders (firefighters and others) in regard to the PV system remaining energized after service disconnecting means has been opened during an emergency event by identifying gaps in the NEC and related codes on this topic.
2017 to present
Construction Fire Safety Coalition. A collaborative, multi-stakeholder coalition that is dedicated to reducing the occurrence of fires in buildings under construction, alteration, or demolition. To achieve this goal, coalition partners will align on best practices and agree to promote awareness of the coalition and offer educational materials and opportunities to stakeholder organizations that value a fire safe construction site.

2015 to present
Member of the Hydrogen Codes Improvement Team which is supported by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) through their Transportation Working Group (TWG) Hydrogen Codes Task Force (HCTF). Works to improve code language and codes and standards coordination for the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel source.

Code consultant to the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) and member of the NASFM Model Codes Committee. This activity includes research, analysis, codes & standards development, testimony and presentations on a multitude of topics regulated by model codes and standards.

Code consultant and facilitator for the National Association of State Fire Marshals and the US Department of Energy National Renewable Laboratory for the planning, development and facilitating of alternative energy workshops for code officials and industry members including but not limited to hydrogen as a fuel, biofuels, ethanol, solar power and wind power.

Code consultant to Plug Power, Inc. on matters concerning the use of stationary hydrogen fuel cells as an alternative energy power source. This activity includes research and analysis of codes and standards affecting the deployment of stationary hydrogen fuels cells and associated storage of hydrogen gas along with code development and testimony activities.

As a subject matter expert, extracted material from the NJ 60 hour ‘Inspector of Hotels and Multiple Dwellings Certification Course’ to develop 5 administrative content and 9 technical content continuing education courses for licensed Housing Officials and Housing Inspectors. As part of the review developed Instructor Guides, Handouts and PowerPoint presentations to be utilized for presenting the program.

As a subject matter expert, performed a technical review and reformatting of the instructor guides and textbooks for the NJ 60 hour ‘Inspector of Hotels and Multiple Dwellings Certification Course’ required for licensure as a Housing Official or Housing Inspector. As part of the review developed PowerPoint presentations to be utilized for instructing the program.

Continued to assist the International Code Council and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of State for the State of New York working with the NYC Mayor’s Task Force on Adopting a Model Code for the City of New York by providing technical guidance on review and adoption of IBC and IFC Chapters dealing with hazardous materials.

As a subject matter expert, developed the State of NJ 90 hour ‘Fire Inspector Certification Course’ for mandatory use by all educational facilities providing fire inspector certification courses in NJ. Also drafted the regulations requiring this program to be utilized.

Assisted the Office of the Assistant Secretary of State for the State of New York as a mediator for the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Task Force comprised of fire service, LPG industry, and state officials involved in the development of New York State fire code regulations.

Assisted with the development of the course entitled: ‘Board of Appeals Workshop’. Provided technical background and case examples and arranged for videotaping of a mock Board of Appeals hearing. The course was subsequently adopted by both the NJ Division of Fire Safety and the NJ Division of Codes and Standards for presentation as a CEU seminar for construction code officials, fire code officials and members of Board’s of Appeal.

Developed the initial State approved Fire Official and Fire Inspector Certification Courses for the Middlesex County Fire Academy.

Drafted the Ordinance for and implemented the enforcement of the NJ Uniform Fire Code in South Brunswick, NJ.

Developed the first Fire Inspector I Certification Course for the Bergen County NJ Fire Academy
